Careers
If you are interested in a career in transcription and working from home, are passionate about transcribing and would like to make money doing so, then look no further.
It is strongly advised you read all the notes on this page before applying. They are very important in understanding what we expect from you and what you can expect from us.
Your Earnings
Transcription (General)
We pay no less than €0.50 per audio minute for general transcription. In some cases we pay up to €1.00 per audio minute.
This means that a 60-minute audio file will earn you €30 – €60 for your time. A 60-minute file should take 4-5 hours on average. A review of your work is done afterwards.
Transcription (Medical & Legal)
A certificate in medical or legal transcription is required for this work. We pay no less than €1.00 per audio minute for legal/medical transcription. In some cases we pay up to €1.75 per audio minute.
This means that a 60-minute audio file will earn you €60 – €105 for your time. A 60-minute file should take 4-5 hours on average.
Transcription (Translations)
We pay no less than €2.00 per audio minute for translations. In some cases we pay up to €2.75 per audio minute.
This means that a 60-minute audio file will earn you €120 – €165 for your time. A 60-minute file should take 4-5 hours on average.
What can I earn per day?
Realistically speaking, this all depends on the workload we have for you and how much time you have available each day. Those that have the time to work more hours and if there is work available are able to earn more. Each 60 minutes should take the average transcriber around 4-5 hours to complete if you’re not rushing your work. Jobs may be shorter or longer than 60 minutes so earnings will vary.
Why do you pay more than others?
We know just how much time and effort goes into transcription and respect this fact. It is a time-consuming job that must be done carefully. Therefore, we pay sometimes double or even triple what others may pay. Low pay reduces the quality of work and lack of motivation for you, our hard workers.
With this in mind, we will not tolerate any rushed work and expect 99% accuracy or higher before delivery to the customer. We are here to help so let us know the issue you are experiencing with your file. Obvious carelessness may result in us no longer offering you work.
How do you assign work?
We will contact everyone via email when work becomes available. It will be on a first come first served basis as we have very short turnaround times and we need a quick response from someone who is able to commit to a file and get on it right away. Unless you are working on a short file, a maximum of one job will be assigned to one person at a time.
Your work will be reviewed
Each transcript you type up and then review will be reviewed a second time by a Quality Assurance Manager before being sent to the customer. We are a very understanding team so don’t be afraid to sign up and ask for help if you’re worried with something. We’re here to assist you. However, if we notice poor work due to carelessness then we may no longer offer you work.
How you get paid
All payments are made through PayPal. If you do not have a PayPal account then please sign up for one before you apply. Your email used to apply and accept work must be the same as your PayPal. We cannot pay you without this.
Work Your Own Hours
This is a freelance job. You can do as much work or as little work as you want. You are your own boss when it comes to work hours.
This also means that all taxes are to be taken care of by you and that Verbal Words is in no way responsible for any negligence for unpaid taxes. It is the law to declare your income and pay tax.
Friendly Staff Support
Here at Verbal Words, we appreciate you. We treat all our workers with the respect they deserve for their hard work. If you have a problem or question with a file, tell us about it. If you have completed your transcript but are worried about the quality, let us know what it is before submitting and perhaps we’re able to help you catch that inaudible or simply put your mind at ease.
Work From Home
Work any time you want, anywhere. The sky is literally the limit.
Do I need any equipment?
You will need the obvious basics as well as a quiet work environment. We do not provide any equipment and are in no way responsible for any of your equipment damaged and will not replace anything broken.
Hardware
- A good headset/earphones. Preferably noise-cancelling ones. Without these you are going to mishear words or miss out words completely. Do not try to transcribe without them.
- Access to a computer and internet connection. The faster internet the better. Those with a slower internet should not have a problem unless the file is extremely large and upload/download speeds are affected.
- Foot Pedal. Some people like to use a foot pedal to control the audio. It may allow you to complete work quicker as your hands are always free to type.
- Express Scribe Pro – There is a free version which is okay but you won’t be able to upload video files. Without it you could miss out on work.
- FxSound Enhancer – If the audio sounds awful, try using this enhancer to reduce background noise or increase sound quality. Without this you may be tempted not to work on a file which actually is possible to complete.
- Microsoft Word. A requirement as without it you cannot submit your work.
Where do you hire?
